The Soweto Hotel & Conference Centre participates in this taste festival as venue host for the chef demonstrations that take place prior to the main event held in October 2010. These demonstrations are aimed at giving various hospitality establishments an opportunity to discover new and wonderful ways of cooking with mushrooms. “We love the Mushroom Festival and are so pleased that we are a participating again this year,” says Lindiwe Sangweni-Siddo, general manager of The Soweto Hotel & Conference Centre. “These demonstrations are educational by nature and are aimed at collectively improving the standard and quality of food prepared in our hotels, the many B&B’s and restaurants in the area. Everyone benefits from this initiative”. The Soweto Mushroom Festival is an initiative of the South African Farmers’ Association and is run in association with the Soweto Tourism Association and Pick ‘n Pay as prize and ingredient sponsor. The main objective is to create greater awareness around fresh cultivated mushrooms, to demonstrate their versatility in a wide variety of meals and the ease of preparation. “This year, Cape Legends wine makers join in at the demo to give valuable suggestions on wine and food pairing featuring some of the winning Cape Legends varietals,” continues Sangweni-Siddo.
