The 2010 Crowning Miss Soweto pageant proudly brought to you by MTN has been given a contemporary spin. For the first time in South African history, a beauty pageant has been linked to a reality TV series entitled “Crowning Miss Soweto”, giving the public an up-close and person look at the future Miss Soweto finalists. The Soweto Hotel on Freedom has been identified as a venue partner, providing accommodation, meeting rooms as well as catering for various elements filmed for the Crowning Miss Soweto TV series. “The hotel has been used as a venue for selected activities throughout the Crowning Miss Soweto TV series. The show utilised the boardrooms for the first elimination judging process, the restaurant for a media launch and challenge winners’ dinner as well as accommodation for select finalists”, says Rebecca Kambule, business development manager, The Soweto Hotel & Conference Centre. Crowning Miss Soweto will culminate on 29 October when the winning contestant will be revealed to the nation at MTN Expo Centre, Nasrec. The reigning Miss Soweto will be treated to a night in the Presidential Suite at The Soweto Hotel & Conference Centre, giving the local beauty a well-deserved, pampered rest after the challenging contest. The two runners-up will also spend the night at the hotel. “The Crowning Miss Soweto TV series is a first for South Africa and has been an eclectic journey of the trials and tribulations that contestants face in a competition of this calibre. Crowning Miss Soweto 2010 is a reality because of the generous support of sponsors and partners such as The Soweto Hotel. Their commitment to the finalists and their communities has allowed the finalists the opportunity to interact and mingle in one of Soweto’s most prized landmarks, entrenched in the heritage and history of Mzansi. Crowning Miss Soweto is about making a difference and giving the future Miss Soweto a solid platform to start from, which The Soweto Hotel has amply contributed towards,” says Tumi Masemola, a Director of Black Brain Pictures, organisers of Crowning Miss Soweto 2010. “We have proven that the hotel is fit for Miss Soweto”, says Kambule. “And as this is a pageant with a long history and one that has been a wonderful platform for many young women over the years, we are very happy to participate. It has been a mutually beneficial relationship”. For further information on The Soweto Hotel & Conference Centre, please
