Chef : Jafta Hatshejame
The hotel Chef, Jafta Hatshejame is a recent addition of the Soweto Hotel’s kitchen equip, and is leading his team to develop typical township, traditional fare, adapted for all palates. His Traditional Township Buffet features mogodu (tripe) and mnqushu (samp and beans), morogo and roasted butternut just to name a few favourites – comfort food just like gogo used to prepare it! Chef Jafta’s wide experience also lends well to the newly introduced menu were his culinary versatility lends well in taking care of everybody’s tastes. This is evident in the Smoked Ostrich Carpaccio served with Fruit Salsa and the signature Sizzling Jazz Maniacs Fillet served with mushrooms on a polenta patty.
Chef de Partie : Junior Molewa

Junior Molewa is a dynamic 43 year old South African woman who is passionate about cooking. A wife and mother of one – she also found the time to accommodate her studies towards a Secretarial Diploma and qualified with secretarial skills. It was a further opportunity to study for a Housekeeping, Hospitality and Culinary Skills Certificate, that really helped her hone a natural love for the culinary world.

Junior has worked as a Demi Chef at the Cobblestone Restaurant located at Monte Casino from 2001 to 2003. This vibey Restaurant has a simple but heart warming menu, featuring some of Junior’s personal favorites like the Oxtail braised in red wine and herbs. Juniour then joined the Restaurant & Banqueting Services at Monte Casino from 2003 to 2004, as a Demi Chef – specializing in buffet style dishes. Junior’s move to Kliptown, Soweto began at the Classique Grillhouse where she worked as the Kitchen Manager. She then joined The Soweto Hotel & Conference Centre in 2007 as a Chef de Partie. Junior is part of the team that has developed the Township Style Menu that features old time favorites of the world’s icon, former president Nelson Mandela, such as Farida Omar’s chicken curry or the bread and butter pudding with hot custard, just like how Gogo used to make it!

Junior brings a unique touch to the kitchen equip of that heavy dose of homely cooking that our mothers and gogos treated us to growing up, of tasty comfort food cooked with a lot of tender loving care!

Regina Leburu has been a Chef de Partie since the hotel’s inception and makes a valuable member of the team with a wide experience in traditional foods to continental tastes.
